Where to stay in Blaye
The crossing cannot be booked, a room can. Staying on the Blaye side has one concrete advantage: you are minutes from the ramp for the first sailing.
The first sailing from Blaye is at 07:15 on weekdays, and you are asked to be there 30 minutes beforehand. Staying in town rather than across the estuary saves you either a very early start or the 79 km drive around Bordeaux.
Three ways to stay here
- Inside the citadel. The site is inhabited and has a handful of guest rooms within the ramparts. The most memorable option, and it sits directly above the ramp.
- In the town below. A few minutes' walk from the ramp at Allées Marines. Practical if you are crossing on foot or by bike.
- Out in the Côtes de Bordeaux vineyards. Just behind the town, cheaper and quieter, but factor in the drive to the slipway in the morning.

When to book
Blaye is a small town with few beds. In July and August, and over the May weekends, rooms go a long way ahead. Out of season a few days' notice is usually enough.
