Why this site exists

The crossing between Blaye and Lamarque asks one straightforward question that almost nobody answers properly online: is the ferry better than driving round through Bordeaux? Official sources publish a timetable and a fare list without putting either in context. Tourist sites describe the region without giving numbers. And a good deal of the English-language material still shows fares from before the revision of 1 April 2026, some of it quoting a one euro foot fare that has not applied for years.

So we built this guide around the one thing that really governs the crossing: it cannot be reserved. Everything else follows from that, from the thirty minutes you are asked to wait to the 3.5 tonne limit that decides whether you board at all.

Where the numbers come from

Fares, durations, sailing frequencies and vehicle rules come from the Gironde department, which runs the line, supplemented by the tourist offices on both banks. Every page lists its sources at the bottom.

Those figures are stored in one place in the site and feed every page in every language. A fare correction is made once, and the German edition cannot end up showing a different price from the French one. That is precisely the fault you find elsewhere.

Where something cannot be verified, we do not publish it. That applies to the category-by-category fares out of season: they appear on no verifiable source, so the page shows nothing rather than an approximate figure.

Independence

This is not the official website of the Gironde department or its maritime transport service, and we have no connection to either. The crossing itself cannot be booked and earns us nothing.

The site is funded by the accommodation maps on some pages. If you book a room through one, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not influence what we write about the crossing: we also tell you when driving through Bordeaux is the better choice, and when the other ferry is.
